Hard anodizing is exclusive surface finishing treatment for aluminum CNC milled workpieces. The anodic oxide film thickness maintains above 25μm, far thicker than conventional decorative anodizing with 5–8um coating. The compact hardened oxide layer greatly enhances surface hardness, abrasion resistance and long-term corrosion resistance.

The oxide film grows inward and outward simultaneously, resulting in slight aperture shrinkage after processing. For precision assembly holes and tolerance-critical positions, we implement two mature solutions: pre-masking precision holes with plugs before hard anodizing, or post-process fine boring and reaming to amend dimensional deviation. Black is the mainstream hard anodizing color option. It is widely applied to aluminum sliding components, automation wear-resistant structural parts, outdoor equipment enclosures and aluminum heat sinks.

1.What is the standard film thickness of hard anodizing?

Hard anodizing thickness is 25μm and above, much thicker than standard decorative anodizing (5–8μm).

2.Which materials can be hard anodized?

Only aluminum alloys (6061, 6063, 7075)

3.Will hard anodizing shrink hole size and affect tolerance?

Yes. The oxide film grows inward and outward, causing obvious aperture shrinkage. Precision holes require plug masking or post-anodizing reaming.

4.What advantages does hard anodizing have over ordinary anodizing?

Higher surface hardness, outstanding wear resistance, superior acid and alkali resistance, fit for friction contact and harsh working environment.

5.How do you guarantee dimensional accuracy for precision holes?

We reserve reasonable machining allowance in advance, or seal precision holes with high temperature resistant plugs before anodization.

6.What color options are available for hard anodized parts?

Black and natural grey are mature conventional choices. Bright colorful dyeing is not suitable for hard anodizing process.
